About the studio
The studio space
Configured deliberately to foster collaboration and harness creative flow, the studio features an explosive drum room (designed by Lou Clark of SonicSpace), an open live room with space for bandmates to establish sightlines to the drum room and control room, and a cozy isolation booth ideal for vocals and guitars. An additional amp isolation box with easy connections to+from the other spaces, affectionately referred to as “the casket”, is tucked away out of sight from the primary studio space.
The control room is open and inviting, centered around the studio’s hearth: a Neotek Elite 34ch analog console, which is the core of our recording workflow. With an inclination for comfy furniture and soft lighting, musicians tend to throw out words like “vibe-y” and “homey” within minutes of stepping inside the space.
Outside of the studio exists a kitchenette to store food and to caffeinate, a bathroom with shower & laundry for traveling bands/artists, and a homey lounge for times when you need a break from the session. Our building also has ample parking and a freight elevator to help easily bring in heavy gear into the space.
Studio history
One Horse Studio was founded in the summer of 2026 with the goal of offering enjoyable, creatively fulfilling, and comfortable recording services to musicians in the Greater Boston area.
Headed by Jamie Rowe, a Massachusetts native with over a decade of professional recording experience in Boston, the studio is equipped for a wide array of projects. Whether it’s a punk or indie band aiming to create raw and exciting recordings, or an album that asks for more of a polished sheen, One Horse is a studio that can feel like home in an instant.
Previously the home of Woolly Mammoth Sound, the studio has a storied history as the area’s premiere recording space, having played an integral part in acclaimed records from artists like Dropkick Murphys, Robin Thicke, Serj Tankian, The Devil Wears Prada, Bent Knee, Mission of Burma, Fiddlehead, and Boston legends The Neighborhoods.
Jamie spent years working at other studios in Boston (The Record Co., Rare Signals), and was always drawn to the mojo of Woolly Mammoth since his first session in that studio in 2019. It’s truly an honor to carry that torch that Dave Minehan lit through years of record making in this building!
